Very Old Recipe For Shoo Fly Cake
Ingredients
1 1/2 C. flour
1 C. brown sugar
1/4 C. lard or 1/4 C. butter
1/2 C. molasses
1/2 C. hot water
1/2 tsp. soda
Cooking Instructions
Make crumbs by combining the flour, sugar and shortening. Line a pie pan with pastry. Dissolve the soda in the hot water and combine with the molasses. Pour into the pastrylined pan, top with the crumbs and bake at 350 until firm. or until a cake tester inserted in center comes out clean. Let cake rest for 10 minutes, then take out of mold and pour your favorite glaze over warm cake or cut cake and pour glaze over slices.
