Ingredients

3 C. warm unsweetened applesauce
4 tsp. baking soda in applesauce
3 C. brown sugar
1 C. shortening
2 tsp. baking powder
3 C. flour
2 eggs
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. salt
Lemon Sauce:
3 Tbsp. grated lemon peel
6 Tbsp. lemon juice
1/4 C. sugar

Cooking Instructions

Mix all together. Bake at 350 degrees in a tube or bundt pan for 1 hour. Serve each slice topped with Lemon Sauce. Lemon Sauce: In a 1 1/2 quart pan over high heat, stir lemon peel, lemon juice, and sugar just until the sugar is dissolved. Use hot.
