Smothered Pork Chops
Ingredients
12 pork chops
1 large sliced onion
2 C. of water
2 C. of bacon drippings or vegetable shortening
4 Tbsp. of all purpose flour
2 tsp. of lawry’s seasoned salt
2 tsp. of garlic powder
1-1/2 tea spoons of black pepper
1/2 tsp. of onion powder
Cooking Instructions
Wash pork chops and pat dry. Mix seasonings together and rub on pork chops. Use 1/4 tsp. per chop, reserve remaining seasonings for gravy. Lightly dust chops with flour. Heat drippings in a large heavy skillet. Add chops and brown on each side, 5-10 minutes. Remove chops from pan to a paper towel. Remove all but 1/4 C. drippings from pan. Add a sliced onion and brown. Add water and stir. Return shops to pan and add sufficient water to cover. Bring to boil then reduce heat to low, cover and simmer about an hour or until chops are fork tender. Season to taste with additional seasoning mix if desired.
