Basic White Crackers
Ingredients
2 C. all purpose flour
1/4 tsp. salt
2 Tbsp. margarine, softened
1 C. water
salt for topping, optional
Cooking Instructions
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. In a large bowl or food processor, combine flour and salt. Cut in the margarine until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs. Slowly mix in enough water to form a cohesive ball. Divide dough into 3 equal portions for rolling. On a floured surface or pastry cloth, roll the crackers paper thin. Lightly sprinkle the tops with salt if so desired and gently roll over the top with rolling pin. With a sharp knife, carefully cut the crackers into 2 squares. Handling them gently, transfer to an ungreased cookie sheet. Prick each cracker 2 or 3 times with a fork. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool on a rack. Serve with soups, salads, dips, etc.
