Ingredients

1/2 C. shortening
1 1/2 C. sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
2 Tbsp. cocoa
2 eggs
2 C. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
2 C. applesauce (unsweetened or sweetened)
12 ounces package semi-sweet chocolate chips
Sugar for topping

Cooking Instructions

Combine first 9 ingredients in large bowl; beat with electric mixer at medium speed 2 minutes. Pour into greased 9×13-inch pan. Sprinkle chocolate chips over top (they should pretty well cover it). Sprinkle generous amount of sugar over chocolate chips. Bake at 350 for 30-40 minutes.
