English Beef Pot Pie
Ingredients
10 white peppercorns
1bay leaf
1md carrot,peeled and julienned into thin strips
1yellow turnip,peeled and julienned,(about 2 cups)
1md celery root (celeriac) julienned
1 cclarified butter for sauteeing
7 oz of sirloin,slices
1 md white onion,peeled and finely chopped
1/3 ccognac
1/2 cheavy cream
1 cbrown beef stock
1juice of 1 lemon
1 Tbutter
Cooking Instructions
Cut into 1 inch cubes place steak cubes in crock pot. Combine flour, salt and pepper. Toss with steak to coat thoroughly. Stir in remaining ingredients and mix thoroughly. Cover and cook on low setting for 7 to 10 hours. One hour before serving, remove meat and vegetables from crock pot and pour into shallow 2-1/2 quart baking dish. Preheat oven to 425. Cover meat mixture with biscuit topping. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes. Topping: Mix dry ingredients. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles course cornmeal. Add milk all at one time, stir well. Pat out on floured board, roll out to cover baking dish.
