Tourtiere (French Canadian Meat Pie)
Ingredients
3 lb. lean hamburger
2 lb. ground pork
2 medium onions, chopped
salt and pepper to taste
ground allspice to taste
1 to 1-1/2 C. water
2 C. bread crumbs
6 crusts for 8″ or 9″ double pies
Cooking Instructions
Preheat oven to 400º. Cook everything except crumbs and pie crust in a large skillet, until meat is cooked. Remove from heat and stir in bread crumbs. Let sit while you roll out pie crusts. Bake until tops are brown. Serve hot or cold with ketchup or homemade chili sauce NOTE: You can substitute 2 C. finely mashed potatoes for the bread crumbs.
