{"id":10007,"date":"2026-02-15T19:02:34","date_gmt":"2026-02-15T19:02:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/recipe4thecook.com\/\/"},"modified":"2026-02-15T19:02:34","modified_gmt":"2026-02-15T19:02:34","slug":"adobe-bread","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/recipes4thecook.com\/vegetarian\/blog\/2026\/02\/15\/adobe-bread\/","title":{"rendered":"Adobe Bread"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"left\"><b><font face=\"comic sans ms\" size=\"5\">Ingredients<\/font><\/b><\/p>\n<p>1 pack active dry yeast (1\/4 ounce)<br \/>\n1\/4 C. lukewarm water<br \/>\n1 tsp. salt<br \/>\n3 Tbsp. vegetable shortening, melted<br \/>\n1 C. cold water<br \/>\n4 \u00c2\u00bd C. all purpose flour<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><b><font face=\"comic sans ms\" size=\"5\">Cooking Instructions<\/font><\/b><\/p>\n<p>In a large bowl, soften the yeast in the lukewarm water. Mix the salt, 2 Tbls. of  the shortening, and the cold water together and add to the yeast mixture. Sift in the flour  gradually, beating well after each addition for a smooth consistency. Shape the dough  into a ball, brush lightly with the remaining shortening, and cover with a dry cloth. Set  the bowl in a warm place until doubled in bulk, about 1 hour. Punch the dough down  and, on a floured board, knead about 5 minutes. Shape into 2 round loaves on a well  greased baking sheet. Cover with a dry cloth and set to rise another 45 minutes. Preheat  the oven to 400 degrees.
