{"id":22,"date":"2026-02-22T22:38:37","date_gmt":"2026-02-22T22:38:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/recipes4thecook.com\/roast-turkey-with-herbal-rub"},"modified":"2026-02-22T22:38:37","modified_gmt":"2026-02-22T22:38:37","slug":"roast-turkey-with-herbal-rub","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/recipes4thecook.com\/thanksgiving\/blog\/2026\/02\/22\/roast-turkey-with-herbal-rub\/","title":{"rendered":"Roast Turkey With Herbal Rub"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"left\"><b><font face=\"comic sans ms\" size=\"5\">Ingredients<\/font><\/b><\/p>\n<p>1  or  13 Pound Whole Turkey fresh or thawed<br \/>\n1 Medium onion quartered<br \/>\n1 lemon quartered<br \/>\n1\/4 Cup vegetable oil<br \/>\n1 Teaspoon dried thyme<br \/>\n1 Teaspoon dried tarragon<br \/>\n1 Tablespoon dried rosemary<br \/>\n1 Teaspoon salt<br \/>\n1\/2 Teaspoon freshly ground black pepper<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><b><font face=\"comic sans ms\" size=\"5\">Cooking Instructions<\/font><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Preheat oven to 325F. Remove giblets and neck from turkey and reserve for<br \/>\nbroth. Rinse turkey with cold running water and pat dry with paper towels.<br \/>\nPlace onion and lemon quarters in neck and body cavities. In a small bowl,<br \/>\nmix oil with herbs, salt and pepper. With your finger tips, gently loosen<br \/>\nskin from the breast without pulling off the skin. Place 1 tablespoon of<br \/>\nherb mixture under skin; replace skin. Rub cavities and outside of turkey<br \/>\nwith remaining herb mixture. Secure the neck skin to the back with<br \/>\nskewers. Fold wings under back of turkey. Place legs in tucked position. May<br \/>\nbe prepared to this point, covered and refrigerated for several hours.<br \/>\n Place turkey, breast side up, on a rack in a large shallow (no more than<br \/>\n2 or 1\/2 inches) deep roasting pan. Insert an oven or safe thermometer into the<br \/>\nthickest part of the thigh, being careful it does not touch the bone.<br \/>\nCover bird with a loose tent of foil. Roast turkey in a preheated 325<br \/>\ndegree F. oven for about 2 or 1\/2 hours. Remove foil and baste bird with pan<br \/>\njuices. Continue to roast for about another hour until meat thermometer<br \/>\nregisters 180 degrees F. in the thigh. Remove turkey from oven and allow<br \/>\nto rest for 15 or 20 minutes before carving.
