{"id":85,"date":"2026-02-22T23:26:42","date_gmt":"2026-02-22T23:26:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/recipes4thecook.com\/elk-stew"},"modified":"2026-02-22T23:26:42","modified_gmt":"2026-02-22T23:26:42","slug":"elk-stew","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/recipes4thecook.com\/stew\/blog\/2026\/02\/22\/elk-stew\/","title":{"rendered":"Elk Stew"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"left\"><b><font face=\"comic sans ms\" size=\"5\">Ingredients<\/font><\/b><\/p>\n<p>2 lbs. elk stew pieces<br \/>\n5-6 carrots<br \/>\n4-5 potatoes<br \/>\n1-2 onions<br \/>\nBay leaf (opt.)<br \/>\n2-3 tsp. beef bouillon<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><b><font face=\"comic sans ms\" size=\"5\">Cooking Instructions<\/font><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Flour elk pieces, season with a little salt and pepper.  Using Dutch oven brown in 1 to 2 tablespoons hot oil.  When well seared add 6 cups of water, beef bouillon and bay leaf, cook\/simmer for 1 hour or until tender.  Cut up carrots, potatoes and onions into bite size chunks, add to meat.  Cook\/simmer for 1\/2 hour or until tender.  Thicken stew with 1\/2 cup flour mixed with 1 cup cold water.  Add to stew and cook until thickened.  Add more water if extra gravy is desired.  Remove bay leaf before serving.  Serve with hot buttermilk biscuits.
