Bake pie shell.  Set aside.  Blend sugar, cornstarch and salt in medium bowl.  Stir in cherries.  2.  Microwave at high (100%) until mixture is translucent, 8-11 minutes, stirring once or twice during cooking.  Stir in almond extract.  Pour into pie shell.  Sprinkle with almonds.
