{"id":2744,"date":"2026-02-15T18:42:11","date_gmt":"2026-02-15T18:42:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/recipe4thecook.com\/\/"},"modified":"2026-02-15T18:42:11","modified_gmt":"2026-02-15T18:42:11","slug":"st-louis-gooey-butter-cake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/recipes4thecook.com\/cake\/blog\/2026\/02\/15\/st-louis-gooey-butter-cake\/","title":{"rendered":"St. Louis Gooey Butter Cake"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"left\"><b><font face=\"comic sans ms\" size=\"5\">Ingredients<\/font><\/b><\/p>\n<p>1 C. all-purpose flour<br \/>\n3 Tbsp. sugar<br \/>\n1\/3 C. butter or margarine<br \/>\n1 1\/4 C. sugar<br \/>\n3\/4 C. butter or margarine<br \/>\n1\/4 C. light corn syrup<br \/>\n1 egg<br \/>\n1 C. all-purpose flour<br \/>\n2\/3 C. evaporated milk<br \/>\nPowdered sugar; optional<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><b><font face=\"comic sans ms\" size=\"5\">Cooking Instructions<\/font><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a mixing bowl, combine 1 C. flour and 3 Tbls.  sugar. Cut in 1\/3 C. butter until mixture resembles fine crumbs and starts to cling. Pat in  the bottom of a 9 inch square baking pan. For the filling, beat the 1 1\/4 C. sugar and 3\/4  C. butter until combined. Beat in the corn syrup and egg just until combined. Add the 1  C. flour and evaporated milk alternately, beating just until combined (batter will appear  slightly curdled). Pour into crust-lined pan and bake for about 35 minutes, or until cake is  nearly firm when you shake it. Let cool in pan on a wire rack.
