{"id":1863,"date":"2026-02-15T18:41:41","date_gmt":"2026-02-15T18:41:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/recipe4thecook.com\/\/"},"modified":"2026-02-15T18:41:41","modified_gmt":"2026-02-15T18:41:41","slug":"date-topped-cake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/recipes4thecook.com\/cake\/blog\/2026\/02\/15\/date-topped-cake\/","title":{"rendered":"Date Topped Cake"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"left\"><b><font face=\"comic sans ms\" size=\"5\">Ingredients<\/font><\/b><\/p>\n<p>1 C. dates; chopped<br \/>\n1 tsp. soda<br \/>\n1 C. boiling water<br \/>\n1 1\/2 C. all-purpose flour<br \/>\n1 tsp. baking powder<br \/>\n1\/3 tsp. salt<br \/>\n1 C. sugar<br \/>\n1 egg; beaten<br \/>\n1 Tbsp. butter or margarine; melted<br \/>\n1\/2 C. nuts; chopped<br \/>\nDate topping<br \/>\n1 C. sugar<br \/>\n2\/3 C. boiling water<br \/>\nDash salt<br \/>\n1 C. pitted dates; chopped<br \/>\n1\/2 C. nuts; chopped<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><b><font face=\"comic sans ms\" size=\"5\">Cooking Instructions<\/font><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Pit and cut up dates; add soda dissolved in boiling water and let stand. In a bowl,  combine flour, baking powder, salt and sugar; add to dates along with egg and butter.  Mix well; stir in nuts. Turn into greased 80inch baking pan. Bake in 350 oven for 55  minutes.  Topping: Combine the sugar, boiling water, salt, pitted dates, and nuts. Pour over cake as  soon as it comes from over. Let cake cool in pan.
