{"id":1682,"date":"2026-02-15T18:41:30","date_gmt":"2026-02-15T18:41:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/recipe4thecook.com\/\/"},"modified":"2026-02-15T18:41:30","modified_gmt":"2026-02-15T18:41:30","slug":"chocolate-cherry-nut-cake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/recipes4thecook.com\/cake\/blog\/2026\/02\/15\/chocolate-cherry-nut-cake\/","title":{"rendered":"Chocolate Cherry Nut Cake"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"left\"><b><font face=\"comic sans ms\" size=\"5\">Ingredients<\/font><\/b><\/p>\n<p>2 C. flour, sifted<br \/>\n1 tsp. baking soda<br \/>\n1\/4 tsp. salt<br \/>\n1 C. buttermilk<br \/>\n10 ounce bottle maraschino cherries, reserve liquid<br \/>\n1 egg, room temperature<br \/>\n1\/2 C. butter, softened<br \/>\n1 tsp. vanilla extract<br \/>\n1 C. sugar<br \/>\n2 unsweetened baking chocolate squares, melted<br \/>\n1\/2 C. walnuts<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><b><font face=\"comic sans ms\" size=\"5\">Cooking Instructions<\/font><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 13&#215;9&#8243; pan. Sift flour, baking soda and salt  together in a large bowl. Put buttermilk, all of the reserved maraschino cherry syrup, egg,  butter, vanilla, and sugar into a food processor, cover and process until smooth. Add  melted chocolate. Continue to process until well blended. Stop processor and add all of  the cherries and nuts, cover and process until they are coarsely chopped. Pour batter into  dry ingredients and mix gently by hand until well blended. Bake 35-45 minutes, cool in  pan and frost if desired.
