{"id":1420,"date":"2026-02-15T18:41:28","date_gmt":"2026-02-15T18:41:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/recipe4thecook.com\/\/"},"modified":"2026-02-15T18:41:28","modified_gmt":"2026-02-15T18:41:28","slug":"applesauce-fruit-cake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/recipes4thecook.com\/cake\/blog\/2026\/02\/15\/applesauce-fruit-cake\/","title":{"rendered":"Applesauce Fruit Cake"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"left\"><b><font face=\"comic sans ms\" size=\"5\">Ingredients<\/font><\/b><\/p>\n<p>2 1\/3 C. thick well-drained apple sauce<br \/>\n1 C. shortening<br \/>\n4 eggs, well beaten<br \/>\n1 C. whole wheat flour<br \/>\n4 tsp. baking soda<br \/>\n1 C. nuts, broken<br \/>\n3 tsp. cinnamon<br \/>\n1 tsp. mace<br \/>\n1 tsp. allspice<br \/>\n1 tsp. cloves<br \/>\n2 tsp. nutmeg<br \/>\n2\/3 C. molasses<br \/>\n2 C. brown sugar<br \/>\n6 Tbsp. lemon juice<br \/>\n4 C. white flour<br \/>\n2 pounds seeded raisins<br \/>\n1\/4 pound citron, thinly sliced<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><b><font face=\"comic sans ms\" size=\"5\">Cooking Instructions<\/font><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Cream sugar and shortening. Add applesauce, which has been sieved to remove all  lumps, molasses, eggs, and lemon juice. Sift white flour, measure, and sift with baking  soda, salt, and spices. Dredge raisins in whole-wheat flour. Add white flour mixture to  batter gradually. Beat thoroughly. Add dredged raisins. Put a layer of the batter into a  paper-lined baking pan. Add a layer of citron and nuts, cover with a layer of the batter.  Repeat, having the top layer of the batter.
