Raised Doughnuts
Ingredients
1 C. boiling water
1/4 C. shortening
1/2 C. sugar
1 cake yeast
1/4 C. lukewarm water
6 C. sifted flour
1 tsp. salt
1 C. evaporated milk
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla extract
Cooking Instructions
1. Pour boiling water over shortening and sugar; dissolve. 2. Soften yeast in lukewarm water. 3. Sift together dry ingredients. 4. Mix milk, well beaten eggs, vanilla, yeast and 1/2 cup flour in shortening mix. Beat hard, beat in remaining flour. Cover, set in warm place until double in bulk. 5. Dump and knead several minutes. Roll 1/2 inch thick. Cut, let rise until double in bulk. 6. Fry at 375 degrees. Makes 24.
