{"id":119,"date":"2026-02-15T18:26:50","date_gmt":"2026-02-15T18:26:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/recipe4thecook.com\/moroccan-five-grain-pilaf\/"},"modified":"2026-02-15T18:26:50","modified_gmt":"2026-02-15T18:26:50","slug":"moroccan-five-grain-pilaf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/recipes4thecook.com\/african\/blog\/2026\/02\/15\/moroccan-five-grain-pilaf\/","title":{"rendered":"Moroccan Five-Grain Pilaf"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"left\"><b><font face=\"comic sans ms\" size=\"5\">Ingredients<\/font><\/b><\/p>\n<p>1 T olive oil<br \/>\n1 lg onion,chopped<br \/>\n1 T finely-chopped ginger root<br \/>\n1 clove garlic,minced<br \/>\n2 t curry powder<br \/>\n1 t cumin,Ground<br \/>\n1\/2 t cinnamon<br \/>\n1\/2 t turmeric,Ground<br \/>\n4 1\/2 c vegetable stock (or chicken) stock<br \/>\n1\/2 c long grain brown rice<br \/>\n1\/2 c wheat berries<br \/>\n1\/2 c pearl barley<br \/>\n1\/2 c quinoa<br \/>\n1\/2 c millet<br \/>\n1 t salt<br \/>\n2 carrots,cut in 1\/2-inch cubes<br \/>\n19 oz can garbanzos,drained and rinsed<br \/>\n1 bn spinach (or swiss chard) thinly,sliced<br \/>\n1\/4 c almonds (or pinenuts)-Slivered (optional),Toasted<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><b><font face=\"comic sans ms\" size=\"5\">Cooking Instructions<\/font><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the onion, ginger and garlic; cook, stirring, about 4 minutes or until softened.<br \/>\nAdd curry powder, cumin, cinnamon and turmeric; cook one minute.<br \/>\nStir in the stock, rice, wheat berries, barley and salt. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer, covered, for 30 minutes.<br \/>\nPlace quinoa in sieve; rinse well under running water.<br \/>\nAdd to saucepan with millet and carrots.<br \/>\nCover; simmer about 20 minutes or until liquid is almost absorbed. <\/p>\n<p>Place garbanzos and spinach (or Swiss chard) on top of grains in saucepan, without stirring. Replace cover; cook about 5 minutes longer or until spinach is just wilted and liquid is absorbed. Toss with a fork; transfer to a large bowl or platter.
