Sweet Baked Beans
Ingredients
1 bag of navy beans
1/4 C. ketchup
2 tsp. mustard
1/2 C. to 3/4 C. molasses
salt and pepper
2 Tbsp. brown sugar
1 onion, peeled and left whole
1/4 to 1/2 C. butter
3-4 slices of raw bacon, cut up
Cooking Instructions
Soak beans in water overnight. In the morning, rinse and cover with water. Bring to a boil and simmer for approximately one hour. Drain. (I sometimes keep this water and use it to cover the beans for the final cooking) Place beans in a crock and add the remaining ingredients. Mix together and add boiling water to cover. Bake in a 325° degree oven for up to 8 hours or until soft. You will need to keep an eye on the beans and replace liquid as it dries up from cooking.
